We welcome PhD, Master's, and current Embry-Riddle undergrad students to join our group.

If you are interested in joining our group, please read the following instruction and then send an email to lotth@erau.edu with subject line "Interested in Joining HL Lab -- Prospective Researcher Inquiry".

I will not be able to reply to every inquiry email, but I will read them. If there is a mutual interest, you will be contacted. You are welcome to send follow-ups in the meantime. 

In the age of AI, being human is more valuable than ever. Human is hardwired for connection and authenticity. Thus disingenuousness is easy to spot. I support many usages of AI, but I value authenticity and honesty above all else. It is okay to use AI to improve writing as you see fit, but please make sure the ideas, facts, voice, and insights in your communication come from you.

Instructions:

• In your email body, include the following:

  1. Your education background.

  2. What type of research position (postdoc/PhD/Master's/undergrad) are you seeking.

  3. Your timeline (your expected graduation time; ideal starting time)

  4. Relevant courses taken, if any.

  5. Your previous research experience, if any. 

     • For prospective undergrad and Master's students -- If you have no past research experience simply state so. It's okay. We all start somewhere. 

(I expect all prospective PhD students to have some level of research experience.)

• 5. • If your past research experience is directly related to our research, make this clear. 

(Here, "directly related to" means sharing at least one of the following: technique, instrument, materials system, application.)

• 5. • If your past research experience is not directly related to what we do in our lab, It's okay. In this case, I'd rather see that you can explain your past research well than making forced connections. 

  6. Your technical skills.

  7. Why are you interested in joining HL Lab. 

     • Since we are located in Dayton Beach, if the love for beach life is why you want to join HL Lab we totally get it. The bottom line is be honest and be authentic.
