HL Laboratory (HL Lab) is an upcoming research lab at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, lead by Dr. Hongling Lott. 

Our lab focuses on II-VI compound studies. More specifically, we are interested in epitaxy growth of high-quality single crystal thin films, superlattices, nanowires, and quantum dots of CdTe-based semiconductor on highly-mismatched substrate such as silicon. 

II-VI compounds have great variety of properties for exploration. However, it is understudied compared to other compounds such as III-V's. One of the major bottleneck of technologies that involves II-VI compounds is the high lattice mismatch (>19%) with silicon. This is a materials science and engineering problem and can be tackled with more detailed and comprehensive understanding of growth process and mechanisms.
